Finding Peace of Mind Spiritually

In these trying economic and social times, many men and women are looking to the church in order to find peace of mind and answers to a great many questions. People that have previously been uninterested in hearing about God are now curious about what He has to say. Leaders and churchgoers alike are finding themselves swamped with inquiries from their friends and acquaintances alike as to the nature and character of God. The Modern Church vs. the Acts Church In the book of Acts, we see what the church was originally intended to look like. As soon as the 120 were filled with the Holy Spirit in the upper room in Chapter 2 of Acts, the church explodes. Many people are saved and a community develops in which all goods are shared, all sicknesses are healed and the spiritual gifts are in use. The church today looks drastically different in most places, with churchgoers looking and behaving pretty much as everyone else does. Instead of sharing, there is a lot of greed. Instead of healings, there are many sick people. And instead of people being saved regularly, church attendance is dropping rapidly, especially among younger demographics. The Revolution With the eyes of the nation turned once again to the church for answers, many men and women are realizing that the Christianity they have settled for is far less than what God described in the bible. A new generation is also rising, questioning the traditions of man in the church that have very little to do with the gospel or the things that Jesus said were important. There is a revolution breeding in the church amongst dissatisfied Christians of all age groups, but most of the stirring can be seen in college aged Christians. Many of these people are looking back to the bible and the way the church looked and behaved in the book of Acts. Many are stepping outside of traditional church programs in order to pray for the sick and see them healed, to live in community and to see their cities transformed. The Conclusion The face of the church is dramatically changing in this particular season, just as people are beginning to look to it for answers to the problems that seem to be plaguing our nation. The most powerful answers get will most likely not come from the established, traditional church, but will come from a group of people that has returned to a vibrant Christianity that is presented with power. Even now, signs, wonders and miracles are occurring more than ever amongst this group of people. Even Christian teenagers have joined the move back to biblical Christianity, choosing sexual purity and morality as their personal standard of living. The church will look different in the days to come than it has in the past, but will have more of the flavor of the original biblical church than ever. They will not just preach and pass the offering plate after singing three hymns. They will sell all that they have in order to preach the gospel and affect their world.
